A Silent Piano?!
This instrument is an example
of Craftmanship and Technology combining. When the middle pedal
is pressed and locked down, the hammers are prevented from
hitting the strings, so that no noise is heard. However, the
action of the keys is sensed by Lasers and this information is
used to trigger a digital piano module. This can then be heard
through headphones.
The result is an instrument
that can either be used as a conventional piano, or as a digital
piano. When in silent piano mode however, unlike digital pianos,
the keyboard is obviously that of a conventional piano. There
are other advantages eg it is equipped with MIDI enabling other
digital modules to be connected, and it also has a recording
facility. Clever Stuff!
